Selected Category:Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

When using an aluminum electrolytic capacitor in something such as a power factor correction (PFC) circuit, there is a mix of overlapping ripple currents consisting of low frequencies near the electrical utility frequency and high frequencies near the switching frequency. We can use the FFT analysis function of the oscilloscope to conveniently calculate the effective value of this ripple current.

This document explains how to use the lifetime estimation for aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

There are two types of packaging material (reel) for SMD type products: cardboard (ninth digit of parts number is D) and plastic (ninth digit of parts number is R).
Plastic material is used in standard products.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are sensitive to contamination of halogen ions (especially to chlorine and bromine ions) though the degree of the effect depends on the properties of the electrolyte and/or sealing materials used in the capacitors. For using a halide-containing flux, solvent (cleaning agent, adhesive or coating materials) or fumigant, the halide may penetrate into the capacitor through the rubber seal materials and cause the following corrosion reactions to occur.

Manufacturing Process of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is as follows.
