About the effect of ESD on aluminum electrolytic capacitors

About ESD
ESD is short for electrostatic discharge, and refers to the discharge of static electricity on components.

ESD tolerance of aluminum electrolytic capacitors
ESD tolerance is not specified for aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
Typically, ESD tolerance is mainly set for semiconductors that are vulnerable to static electricity but this is not thought to apply to aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are components that are able to store an electric load, and that electrical load capacitance is larger than the electrical load required in ESD testing.
In fact, in our experience, no ESD test has ever resulted in an aluminum electrolytic capacitor suffering from any type of malfunction.

Correlation to JIS Standards and Standard AEC-Q200
No ESD test parameter are outlined in JIS C 5101 Standard for aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
Up to RevD, AEC-Q200 contained an ESD test parameter but aluminum electrolytic capacitors incurred no malfunctions even at 25kV, the maximum voltage stipulated in that standard.
