S-parameters of aluminum electrolytic capacitors

The S-parameters (scattering parameters) of aluminum electrolytic capacitors refer to circuit network parameters used to indicate the transmission/reflection power characteristics of high-frequency circuits and electronic components.

Formulate 1 indicates the determinant of the S-parameters for the 2-port circuit shown in Figure 1. Here, a represents the incident wave when measuring with a network analyzer and b represents the wave output from the circuit.

【Fig. 1】Measured circuit pattern diagram (2-port circuit)

Formula 1: S-parameter determinant

S11:From Port1 to Port1  Reflection coefficient (b1/a1)・・・a2=0
S21:From Port1 to Port2    Transmission coefficient (b2/a1)・・・a2=0
S12:From Port2 to Port1    Transmission coefficient (b1/a2)・・・a1=0
S22:From Port2 to Port2  Reflection coefficient (b2/a2)・・・a1=0

Capacitor noise removal characteristics are represented as insertion loss, and can be substituted with the S-parameter S21 gain properties measured using the network analyzer.
