In May 2025, Nippon Chemi-Con Corporation announced the development of a camera module incorporating ASA-ML (Automotive SerDes Alliance Motion Link), a high-speed transmission standard for automotive applications. Since the announcement, the company has continued development and is proceeding with technical verification of the camera module.

Successfully Achieved Image Quality More Than Three Times Higher Than Before
To date, the company has developed camera modules with approximately 2.5 million pixels (2.5MP) for automotive applications. Building on this technology, we have now prototyped an ASA-ML-compatible camera module with approximately 8 million pixels—equivalent to 4K resolution (8MP)—which features more than three times the pixel count of our previous models. This module successfully transmitted smooth video (30 frames per second) without any delay.

The 8MP camera module prototyped this time incorporates the “VS775S-3,” an ASA-ML-compatible serializer manufactured by Microchip Technology.
Prototype Specifications

Item Prototype Specifications
Resolution 8MP (approx. 8 million pixels) 3840 (H) × 2160 (V)
Dimensions (excluding connector) W32 × D50 × H32 mm
Output Interface ASA-ML
Verified Frame Rate 30fps
Field of View 105° (H) / 56° (V)
Serializer Microchip Technology VS775S-3

The image sensor used supports frame rates exceeding 30 fps. Additionally, ASA-ML is capable of transmitting video at higher frame rates. Going forward, we will continue technical verification of the camera module to support even higher frame rates.

Although this prototype uses an ASA-ML-compatible serializer, our camera modules are not limited to ASA-ML. Depending on customer specifications, system configuration, and connected devices, we can also incorporate serializers compatible with other high-speed transmission technologies for automotive applications. We have the capability to support other high-speed transmission technologies and propose transmission methods suited to the application while maintaining the same form factor.
Sample and Mass Production Support
We are currently conducting technical verification for mass production of the ASA-ML-compatible 8MP camera module prototyped this time. We will announce the schedule and details for demonstrations at trade shows and other events on our website as soon as they are finalized.

Nippon Chemi-Con is expanding its lineup of ASA-ML-compatible camera modules from 2.5MP to 8MP. We will continue to develop camera modules tailored to our customers’ specifications and system configurations by leveraging multiple high-speed transmission technologies for automotive applications.
Production Site
Mass production of this camera module is scheduled to take place at the Nagaoka Plant of Chemicon Devices Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of our company) in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, a domestic production facility that meets automotive quality standards.

Purpose of the 8MP Upgrade
The increase in resolution to 8MP enables the capture of finer image details. This is expected to provide a clearer view of distant traffic signs and small objects in front of the vehicle, as well as areas behind the vehicle that are difficult to see from the driver’s seat. By transmitting video at 30 fps, the system assists in monitoring conditions both in front of and behind the vehicle.
